GRAY, Tenn. (WKPT) – 5 runners, 2 miles, and one national champion…

That’s the basic makeup of a 2 Mile Postal Competition.

That competition supports the growth of high school distance running, and you can find the 2014 national champs at Daniel Boone High School.

“I really think it’s a testament to what we’ve done here at Daniel Boone High School. I’m so proud of these guys, and to have an Olympic silver medalist, Leo Manzano, here is just so cool,” says Daniel Boone Senior, Adam Barnard.

You heard right, the boys cross country team were given the title back in December and today Olympic medalist Leo Manzano delivered their prize.

“It’s important. These kids have goals and dreams and looking back at my life, this is where it all started and so for me, it brings a lot of joy,” says Manzano.

In the Postal Competition, runners from all over the nation compete, compile results, and compare performances.

The best of the best are posted online, and the rest for Daniel Boone High School, was history.

“I think these guys and myself did a great job of not cracking under pressure and bringing some titles back to Gray, Tennessee,” says Barnard.

Manzano says the sky is the limit for the Trailblazers.

“When you have the support of the community and the dedication of such great coaches, anything is possible,” says Manzano.
